How do I add audiobooks?

Tap + in the Audiobooks tab to import from the Files app. Or connect your iPhone to a Mac, select it in Finder, open the Files tab and drag your audiobooks onto Volotome. You can also use iTunes on Windows.

Which files can Volotome play?

DRM-free MP3, M4A and M4B files.

Can I play audiobooks from Audible or Apple Books?

No. Audiobooks bought from Audible, Apple Books and most other stores are copy-protected (Digital Rights Management - DRM) and can only be played in their own apps. Volotome plays audio files you own outright, such as DRM-free purchases or your own recordings.

How do I listen on Apple Watch without my iPhone?

Open a book’s details and turn on Store on Apple Watch. Once the transfer finishes, you’ll find the book under On Apple Watch on your watch. Playing on the watch needs Bluetooth headphones. If a transfer seems stuck, put your Apple Watch on its charger near your iPhone.

Are my audiobooks backed up?

No. Audiobooks and listening statistics are not included in iCloud backups.

How do I move my listening statistics to a new iPhone?

On your old iPhone, go to Settings › Export Listening Data. This will hand you a file with your listening data. Save it in a location that is reachable on your new device. On the new iPhone, add the file with Settings › Import Listening Data.

Why is it called Volotome?

It’s two words put together. Volo is Latin for “I fly”, and tome is a book. My main focus was the Apple Watch sync so I could take my books with me on my runs while leaving my phone at home. So a book that is flying free, untethered. This is where the idea for the app icon is from: a flying book seen from the front.
